Abstract

This study examines the concept of play-based learning within an Islamic educational framework for early childhood. The urgency of this study stems from the growing tension between contemporary early childhood education practices and Islamic pedagogical values, particularly regarding the spiritual and moral dimensions of play. This research aims to analyze the theoretical foundations of play-based learning in Islam, identify Islamic principles that underpin child-centered play activities, and map how such a model can be systematically applied in early childhood Islamic educational institutions. Employing a systematic literature review methodology, the study gathered data from reputable academic journals, Islamic educational texts, and scholarly books published within the last five years. The findings reveal that Islamic teachings fundamentally support play as a medium for holistic child development, encompassing cognitive, physical, emotional, and spiritual dimensions. Islamic scholars consistently affirm that purposeful play aligns with the principle of fitrah, cultivating children's innate disposition toward goodness and devotion to Allah. This study contributes a structured model of Islamically-oriented play-based learning that can guide practitioners in early childhood education settings.
