Abstract

Global wealth inequality has reached historically alarming levels, with the richest minority controlling an ever-growing share of economic resources while billions remain trapped in cycles of poverty and deprivation. This persistent structural injustice demands fresh analytical frameworks beyond conventional economic paradigms, and Islamic distributive principles offer a theologically grounded yet practically rich alternative. This study aims to systematically examine the foundational concepts of wealth distribution in Islam including zakat, waqf, inheritance law, and prohibition of riba and to critically analyze their implications for addressing contemporary social inequality. Employing a qualitative library research methodology, this investigation reviews classical Islamic jurisprudential sources alongside contemporary peer-reviewed scholarship in Islamic economics and social theory. The findings demonstrate that Islamic distributive mechanisms constitute a coherent and multilayered system designed to prevent excessive wealth accumulation, enforce obligatory redistribution, and stimulate productive circulation of resources. The study concludes that strategic implementation and institutional reform of these mechanisms holds significant potential for reducing structural inequality in Muslim-majority societies.
